OKLAHOMA CITY, Okla. (KOKH) — As heavy flooding continues to devastate the Texas Hill Country, Oklahoma is sending another group of first responders to assist with rescue and recovery efforts.
Oklahoma Governor Kevin Stitt and the Department of Emergency Management (OEM) announced that five more Type III swift water rescue teams are on their way to Texas on Friday.
Forty-Three first responders from agencies across the state are heading to Texas with 10 boats, trailers, and other rescue equipment. The new teams will join several teams deployed by Oklahoma on Thursday.
“I’m incredibly proud of the dedicated response agencies representing Oklahoma as they step up to help our neighbors in need,” said Governor Stitt. “They truly embody the Oklahoma Standard, and I’m deeply grateful for their service and commitment.”
The Oklahoma Department of Emergency Management said it continues to monitor additional requests from the affected areas and further support may be deployed if needed.
“Deployments like these require a commitment not only from the responders, but also from the agencies and communities they serve at home,” said OEM Executive Director Annie Mack Vest. “We’re grateful for the Oklahoma teams deploying to Texas and appreciate everyone working together to support this mission.”
