EL PASO, Texas (KFOX14/CBS4) — A high-speed pursuit involving a red Jeep on Interstate 10 in Hudspeth County ended with a crash into a canal and led to multiple charges against an El Paso man, according to Texas Department of Public Safety officials.
A preliminary investigation found that on Wednesday, at about 6:33 a.m., a DPS trooper responded to a U.S. Border Patrol request for assistance with a fail-to-yield involving a red Jeep traveling westbound on IH-10 in Hudspeth County.
The trooper located the vehicle near mile marker 68 and attempted a traffic stop, but the driver failed to yield, and a pursuit began, officials said.
Officials said that during the pursuit, the Jeep reached speeds of more than 100 mph, closely followed other vehicles, and passed traffic on the improved shoulder, DPS said.
The Jeep also struck another vehicle before leaving the roadway and crashing into a canal, ending the pursuit, according to officials.

DPS said the driver was pulled from the canal and taken into custody without further incident.
A woman was removed from the vehicle and transported to a local hospital. The driver was identified as Adrian Leonardo Sandoval, 31, of El Paso.
Sandoval was charged with evading arrest or detention causing serious bodily injury, reckless driving, fail to stop/render aid and human smuggling, DPS said. EMS responded to evaluate the occupants, and the investigation remained ongoing.
