EL PASO, Texas (KTSM) — Members of the El Paso Fire Department’s Water Rescue Team have deployed to South-Central Texas to assist with the response to devastating flooding.
Six members from the El Paso Fire Department have deployed and have been working “tirelessly” alongside first responders from across the state, supporting search-and-rescue operations in the Sonora, Texas, region, El Paso Fire said.
El Paso firefighters came across an unexpected rescue opportunity — a baby deer had become trapped in a fence while trying to escape the rising floodwaters.
“Without hesitation, our teams jumped into action and safely freed the fawn and released it on higher ground, giving it a second chance,” El Paso Fire said.
“Whether saving lives or lending a helping hand whenever it’s needed, our firefighters exemplify compassion, dedication, and service. We couldn’t be prouder of the work they are doing to support our fellow Texans during this incredibly difficult time,” El Paso Fire said.
Two people have died in this year’s flooding and there have been hundreds of people who have needed to be rescued, CNN reports.
Flooding hit the exact same region of Texas as last year, when flooding claimed 139 lives.
“Please continue to keep all of the rescuers and responders, the affected communities, and everyone impacted by these devastating floods in your thoughts. We stand with you all and are ready to help in anyway that we can,” El Paso Fire said.
