A fire tore through a longtime Houston breakfast and lunch spot on Saturday, leaving loyal customers mourning the loss of a restaurant that had been a staple for years.
A fire broke out at Frank’s Grill at 1915 Mangum Road in northwest Houston, leaving the establishment with significant damage. Photos and video from the scene show the building devastated, with charred rubble and debris surrounding the building.
“Today’s fire at Frank’s Grill on Mangum Road is more than the loss of a building,” HTX News posted to Facebook Saturday night. “It’s the loss of a place where generations of Houstonians gathered for breakfast, shared coffee with friends, celebrated milestones, and created memories that will last a lifetime.”
Heartbroken patrons quickly flooded the comments, mourning the loss of the beloved establishment.
“My heart aches to see this! this place holds a special place in my heart my kids are in their 30’s…I used to take them there when they were in elementary school,” one person wrote. “I’m praying they rebuild and have the same wait staff there and the same cooks too I feel bad for the workers that was their source of income.”
“This place holds precious memories for me. From the mid morning breakfast pickup and the nostalgic atmosphere to Good food & great service,” wrote another.
Others called it their favorite spot and said they hope the business can rebuild.
As of Sunday morning, the cause of the fire remained unclear, and no injuries had been reported, according to ABC13. Chron has reached out to the Houston Fire Department for more information.
Frank’s Grill, known for its southern-style comfort food, operates from two other locations in the Houston area, one along Highway 6 and another on Westheimer Road, according to their website. The future of the Mangum Road location remains uncertain. Frank’s Grill did not immediately respond to Chron’s request for comment by the time of publication.
