TOMO Mags
Who says print is dead? TOMO Mags opened in January as both a magazine shop and a conceptual store that sells independent magazines, newsstand print offerings, notebooks and other design goods. Alongside its store products, TOMO also features a cafe and hosts various workshops.

Swig, the popular “dirty soda” chain, officially entered the Texas capital with its first Austin store in mid-February. Menu offerings include customizable beverages, non-carbonated drinks and other snacks.

H-E-B Hancock Center remodel
After three years, H-E-B officially unveiled its new and improved storefront near the University of Texas at Austin. The $17.5 million remodel project, centered around the San Antonio-based grocer’s Hancock Center location, completed work in late February. The 31,000-square-foot expansion to the space included the additional of H-E-B Curbside and Home Delivery services, a pharmacy, a True Texas BBQ restaurant as well as a primary care clinic.

Costco Wholesale
Hundreds of Liberty Hill residents lined early Wednesday, March 11 to shop at the city’s first Costco.

A booming tiny Texas town near Austin, Liberty Hill, celebrated the grand opening of its $62 million Costco Wholesale warehouse in March, with Central Texans waiting hours in line to shop until they drop. The 160,000-square-foot project kickstarted construction work in May 2025, adding new shopping amenities to the suburban community.

PopStroke
Backed by Tiger Woods, mini-golf chain PopStroke unveiled its second Austin-area putt putt course in the neighboring community of Cedar Park in late April. Construction on the estimated $5.8 million facility began back in 2024, with the Cedar Park facility opening just one year after PopStroke’s inaugural debut at The Pitch in North Austin in 2025.

Hibiscus Needlepoint
Indulge in your creative side at Hibiscus Needlepoint, a new shop that specializes in canvases, specialty fibers and other artistic accessories. The storefront celebrated its grand opening in mid-April at its store in the 26 Doors shopping center in Central Austin.

Aldi
Even April showers couldn’t keep Central Texans away from Aldi. The popular discount grocer and H-E-B rival opened in the northwest Austin suburb of Cedar Park in early April. Here in the Lone Star State, Aldi operates roughly 130 stores, with focuses on suburban communities outside of Texas’ major metro areas.

Akiba
Akiba, a Japanese toy store that specializes in anime merchandise, blind boxes, stuffed animals, stationary and other accessories, officially introduced itself to the Austin community via its grand opening in early June.
