Developing: Rescue underway in South Central canal, fire officials say

EL PASO, TEXAS (KFOX14/CBS4) — Emergency crews worked to rescue a person from a canal in south-central El Paso Thursday night and are now assessing the individual.

According to the El Paso Fire Department, a water rescue response was underway at the Cesar Chavez Border Highway and Fonseca Drive after U.S. Customs and Border Protection requested assistance from the El Paso Fire Department

While information is limited, EPFD said the call came in at 7:52 p.m. Thursday, when CBP asked for help from EPFD’s water rescue team to help rescue someone.

EPFD later said that contact has been made with the patient and crews are now assessing the individual and transporting the individual.

Fire department crews were on scene at the Fonseca Ramp and Cesar Chavez area.
