A 19-year-old from North Texas has been identified by the U.S. Department of Defense as one of two service members killed following an Iranian attack at an air base in Jordan on Friday.
Pvt. Isabella Gonzales, 19, of Carrollton, was killed on Friday during the attack at the Muwaffaq Salti Air Base in Jordan, according to a news release from the Defense Department 1st Lt. Tyler James Feehan, 25, of Ewa Beach, Hawaii, was also killed in action on Saturday.
The soldiers were a part of Operation Inherent Resolve. The service members were killed as U.S. Central Command and partner forces defended against Iranian ballistic missile and drone attacks, according to a release from Central Command on Saturday.
Four service members were also taken to Jordanian hospitals for injuries, Central Command said.
Gonzales was assigned to 1st Battalion, 57th Air Defense Artillery Regiment, 52nd Air Defense Artillery Brigade, 10th Army Air Missile Defense Command in Ansbach, Germany, according to the Defense Department.
Feehan was assigned to 2nd Battalion, 55th Air Defense Artillery Regiment, 32nd Army Air Missile Defense Command in Fort Bragg.
A third service member was reported missing after the attack in Jordan. Central Command said Sunday that unidentified remains were found at the location. The remains are being examined to identify them.
Central Command also announced Sunday another U.S. service member was killed in action in northern Iraq during a controlled detonation of unexploded ordnance from a downed Iranian one-way attack drone. A second service member was wounded and continues to receive medical treatment for a minor injury.
As of Sunday, 17 American service members have died as part of the war with Iran, according to the Associated Press.
