Texas soldier among those killed in Iranian attack on U.S. base

An Army soldier from Texas was among U.S. service members killed in an Iranian missile and drone barrage on a U.S. base in Jordan.

Pvt. Isabella Gonzales, 19, of Carrollton, was killed Friday in the attack on Muwaffaq Salti Air Base in Jordan, the Pentagon said on Monday. She was assigned to the 1st Battalion of the 57th Air Defense Artillery Regiment.

Also killed in the attack was 1st Lt. Tyler James Feehan, 25, of Ewa Beach, Hawaii. He died Saturday, the Pentagon said. Feehan was assigned to the 2nd Battalion of the 55th Air Defense Artillery Regiment.

Iran’s Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps claimed responsibility for the attack in a statement on Saturday. Other U.S. service members were injured, including four who were medically evacuated to a hospital in Jordan, U.S. Central Command said.

The attack on Muwaffaq Salti Air Base was part of a wider wave of strikes on installations in the Middle East used by American troops.

Another service member was killed in northern Iraq on Saturday while soldiers were disposing of a downed Iranian drone, the Pentagon said. That soldier’s identity has not been released.

Seventeen U.S. military personnel are confirmed to have been killed since the U.S. and Israel launched attacks on Iran on Feb. 28.
