Aransas Pass police are urging caution after a large alligator was reported near Harbor Island, prompting officers to respond to a concerned fisherman.
ARANSAS PASS, Texas — The Aransas Pass Police Department is reminding residents and visitors to stay aware of their surroundings after receiving a report of a large alligator near Harbor Island over the weekend.
According to the department, officers received a report of an alligator larger than 5 feet that was seen approaching a vehicle near the water. Police said the alligator has since returned to its natural habitat but are encouraging anyone in the area to remain vigilant.

The advisory comes after a man shared his experience on the Aransas Pass Community Page, thanking Aransas Pass police officers who responded after he reported seeing an alligator while fishing along Harbor Island Road Sunday evening.
According to the man’s post, he estimated the alligator was about 6 feet long and became concerned when it began swimming toward him. He said three officers responded to the scene, and two remained while he packed up his fishing gear and safely left the area. He thanked the officers for their professionalism and assistance.
Police are reminding residents and visitors to stay alert near waterways, use caution while fishing, kayaking or recreating near the water, keep a safe distance from wildlife and never approach an alligator.
