Residents in East Arlington will soon see a new water tower on the horizon. Arlington Water Utilities has started construction of a new water tower, or elevated storage tank, on City-owned land just east of the East Arlington Police Services Center, 2001 New York Ave. The new water tower is being built to increase the amount of elevated water storage in the water distribution system. Landmark Structures, which is headquartered in Southlake, is the construction contractor. They’re expected to finish the tower in late 2027.
The new tower will hold 2.5 million gallons of water. Like other water towers, the new structure will help the City of Arlington maintain distribution system pressure and meet water demands. It will also help Arlington fulfill storage requirements set by the Texas Commission on Environmental Quality (TCEQ). In addition to the City of Arlington logo, it will also feature the logo for Arlington International Corridor. The International Corridor, located in East Arlington, runs along East Pioneer Parkway between Center Street and the eastern city limit with Grand Prairie.
Arlington Water Utilities treats and distributes about 19 billion gallons of water each year and produces as many as 100 million gallons of treated tap water a day. Arlington has 10 water towers, or elevated storage tanks, located throughout the city, with capacities from 1 million to 2.5 million gallons each. The towers allow Arlington Water to maintain consistent water pressure throughout the city during peaks in water demand and provide backup water supplies during fires and other emergencies.
The current timeline of the project is to have the pedestal and steel bowl of the new tower erected by early 2027 and to finish construction by late 2027.
