EL PASO, TEXAS (KFOX14/CBS4) — A 44-year-old man was arrested over the weekend for burglary after a stolen truck was recovered after police tracked the vehicle down.
According to the El Paso County Sheriff’s Office, on Saturday, July 18, deputies responded to the 700 block of Cascada Street after receiving a report of a vehicle theft in progress.
While deputies were responding, the victim provided the real-time location of the stolen vehicle as it traveled north on South Ascension Road toward the Montana Boulevard area.
Deputies assigned to the East Montana Patrol Station located the vehicle in the 14200 block of Montana Boulevard and conducted a felony traffic stop.
The driver, identified as 44-year-old Michael Zavala, was detained without incident.
During the investigation, deputies determined Zavala unlawfully entered the victim’s residence, stole the keys to the victim’s truck, and drove away in the vehicle.
Zavala was arrested and charged with burglary of habitation. He was booked into the El Paso County Detention Facility, where his bond was set at $75,000.
“Thanks to the communication and rapid response of our deputies, a burglary suspect was taken into custody, and the stolen vehicle was safely recovered. This is another example of our commitment to working together to protect our community and hold criminals accountable,” Sheriff Oscar Ugarte said.
