The state recognized the program for preparing Plano ISD students for future careers
The Plano Mayor’s Summer Internship Program (PMSIP) received the 2026 Workforce Excellence Award from the Texas Economic Development Council (TEDC), earning top honors in the population category of 250,001 and above.
The award recognizes Texas communities that have implemented successful workforce initiatives. TEDC honored PMSIP for connecting Plano ISD students with meaningful paid internships while helping local employers develop the next generation of talent.
Preparing Students For The Workforce
The Plano Mayor’s Summer Internship Program is an eight-week earn-and-learn opportunity offered exclusively to Plano ISD students. Through paid internships with businesses, nonprofits and government organizations, students gain real-world work experience, build professional skills and explore potential career paths while contributing to their host organizations.
“This recognition belongs to the students, employers, sponsors, volunteers and community partners who make this program possible,” said Plano Mayor John Muns. “Their dedication and support have helped make this program a success year after year.”
Recognized For Workforce Innovation
TEDC presented the award during its 2026 Mid-Year Conference, which was held in Plano.
Applications were evaluated by the organization’s Workforce Development Committee based on innovation, transferability, community commitment and leverage, measured objectives and secondary benefits.
