El Paso County last week named Army veteran James H. Green Jr. as its 2025 Veteran of the Year, recognizing more than two decades of military service and his continued leadership in local veterans’ organizations. The county also honored Eliseo “Eli” Fernandez, a World War II veteran who served with Merrill’s Marauders, as the 2025 Honorary Veteran of the Year for his longstanding support of the veteran community.

As the region celebrates their contributions, communities across El Paso County will host parades, ceremonies and public events offering residents opportunities to honor all military service members and their families. Activities begin Friday, Nov. 8, and continue through next week.
