ABC 13 Meteorologist Travis Herzog shared a new forecast regarding the latest Gulf Coast storm, featuring Tropical Storm Watches along the upper Texas coast, including Brazoria, Galveston, Chambers and Jefferson counties. Gusty winds are expected to hit the Texas coast, though wind shouldn’t surpass 60 miles per hour, per Herzog.
The National Weather Service offered a similar outlook Tuesday night, noting a combination of factors are “expected to limit Bertha’s organization as it approaches southeast Texas.” Space City Weather’s Matt Lanza wrote Wednesday he expects Houston to receive only scattered thunderstorms through Thursday afternoon due to Bertha, with the highest concentration of rain closer to Freeport and Corpus Christi. Portions of just two Texas counties south of San Antonio are under a flood warning as of Wednesday morning.
Central Texas was hit by significant flooding in Kerr County and the Uvalde area last week. Three straight days of rain brought more than 2 feet of rain to Uvalde, shutting down roads and destroying a collection of homes. Texas Gov. Greg Abbott said Monday flooding of the Guadalupe River in Kerr County destroyed or heavily damaged 135 homes, with 490 homes damaged in total. Lanza wrote Wednesday there is no rain forecast in the Hill Country across the next five days, bringing a much-needed reprieve in the area.
Bertha’s incoming won’t limit high temperatures in the Houston area. Houston and The Woodlands could hit 104 degrees by 6 p.m., with temperatures in the 90s in, Galveston, Beaumont and Port Arthur.
