EL PASO, Texas (KFOX14/CBS4) — As students head back to class, the FBI in El Paso is urging families to take school threats seriously and to report concerning behavior before it escalates.
Special Agent Valerie Venegas with the FBI’s El Paso office joined KFOX14 Community Conversations to discuss school threats, including how often they were reported in the area last school year, whether juveniles can face criminal charges for making threats online and what the long-term consequences can be.
The conversation also centered on warning signs parents, teachers and students should watch for, and what to do if someone sees a threatening post online.
Venegas also addressed students who may believe making a threat is harmless, and emphasized a key takeaway she wants parents and students to remember about school threats.
