COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. (KKTV) – On July 21, Colorado Springs Police Department notified the El Paso County Sheriff’s Office (EPCSO) that a deputy with the department was facing multiple charges including driving under the influence.
According to a release from EPCSO, the deputy was identified as 41-year-old David Smith. He has been charged with Driving Under the Influence, Careless Driving, Accident Driving Under the Influence, and Prohibited Use of Weapons.
EPCSO said Smith was employed with the Sheriff’s Office since September of 2024 and was assigned to the Detention Security Division.
Smith has been placed on administrative leave in accordance with policy, EPCSO said.
As of Wednesday, EPCSO said this is an active investigation being handled by the Colorado Springs Police Department.
