A suspected burglar was shot by Plano police detectives early Wednesday at a Carrollton gas station and was hospitalized in unknown condition, police said.
Plano police detectives observed a burglary in progress about 4:20 a.m. at a RaceTrac gas station in the 4600 block of International Parkway, police said in a news release.
Police said the detectives tried to approach the four suspects when one of them fired shots at the officers. The detectives returned fire and one suspect was shot an unknown number of times, according to the release.
The detectives rendered medical aid to the suspect, who was taken by Plano-Fire Rescue to a hospital for treatment. Police said the suspect was in surgery and their status is unknown at this time.
A second suspect also was taken to a hospital for treatment for an unknown injury and is expected to recover, police said.
Police have not identified the suspects but mentioned that three of the suspects are juveniles. No other injuries were reported.
Details regarding how many detectives were involved in the shooting and the age of the person who was shot have not been released.
The detectives involved in this shooting have been placed on administrative leave as per department policy, the release stated.
The shooting will be investigated by the Plano Police Department’s Professional Standards Unit, the Carrollton Police Department and the Denton County District Attorney’s Office, according to the release.
