Houston hits 100 degrees for the first time in nearly a year, storms possible this evening

  • July 22, 2026

HOUSTON – Houston officially reached 100 degrees Wednesday, making it the hottest day of the year so far. It is also the city’s first triple-digit temperature since August 20, 2025, when the high reached 101 degrees.

South Park and Bellaire High School have both hit 102!

Wednesday Night Rain:

We are tracking a few showers and thunderstorms this evening, but these will not be associated with Tropical Storm Bertha. Instead, they will form along a weak boundary moving into Southeast Texas and could produce frequent lightning, heavy downpours and strong, gusty winds.

Rain will remain scattered, so not everyone will see a storm, but any activity that develops could briefly provide some relief from the extreme heat.

Coastal areas will feel the strongest winds from Bertha on Thursday, especially during the afternoon and evening. A Tropical Storm Watch remains in effect for Chambers County and coastal portions of Galveston and Brazoria counties, including Galveston Bay, through 6 a.m. Friday. Wind gusts could reach 40 to 45 mph along the immediate coast, while a Small Craft Advisory is also in effect for the southern coastal waters through early Friday.

There is a 40% chance of additional storms Thursday afternoon. Because of strong wind shear and dry air Houston should not get significant winds from Bertha. There is no organized flood threat, but any individual storm cell can drop a lot of rain in a short amount of time.

Other than the rain chances we will be seeing intense heat on Thursday afternoon with highs right around 100 degrees again.

Highs Tuesday10 Day Forecast:

By the time we get to the weekend we’ll only be dealing with the heat and humidity. As you can see I have more 100° days in the forecast next week. We are now in the heart of summer!
