KPRC 2 chief meteorologist Anthony Yanez announced Wednesday that Briers has joined the NBC affiliate’s weather team.

“We are so happy to have Rachel joining us,” Yanez wrote on social media alongside a photo with Briers and meteorologist Caroline Brown. “She’s a talented meteorologist, and a wonderful person. She’ll be on TV and streaming in two weeks. Welcome to the team, Rachel!”

Briers left ABC13 in December after seven years at the Disney-owned station, saying at the time that she planned to step away from television to become a stay-at-home mom.

In a farewell message, Briers thanked her ABC13 colleagues for helping shape her career, describing the weather team as her “second family.” She also thanked Houston viewers for welcoming her into their homes and said she hoped to continue sharing weather updates online while spending more time with her two daughters.

“I’ll still be here sharing forecasts, fun facts, the occasional joke, and all the ups and downs of mom life,” she wrote, adding that her weather career wasn’t necessarily over.

Her return comes as KPRC 2 continues reshaping its on-air lineup.

Briers joined ABC13 in December 2018 and left as a three-time Emmy Award-winning meteorologist. Before arriving in Houston, she worked at NewsWest 9 KWES in Midland-Odessa and KLBK in Lubbock. The Plano native graduated from Texas A&M University with a degree in atmospheric sciences and completed internships at WFAA in Dallas-Fort Worth and KBTX in Bryan-College Station.
