EL PASO, Texas (KTSM) — One man was seriously hurt after falling off a ladder on the roof of a two-story home on Wednesday, July 22, in West El Paso, according to the El Paso Fire Department.
Shortly before 8:30 a.m., a man called 9-1-1 to report that he had fallen from a ladder onto the roof of a home along the 6900 block of Enid Court.
The residence is a two-story home, and the man fell from the ladder onto the first-level roof. He told the 9-1-1 operator that he was unable to safely descend.
According to a spokesperson with the El Paso Fire Department, the first unit arrived within five minutes of dispatch.
Firefighters quickly accessed the man’s location, conducted an initial assessment and began providing medical care.
Although the man was in stable condition, the EPFD spokesperson said the “mechanism” of the injury warranted additional precautions to prevent further harm during removal.
The incident commander requested the department’s Special Rescue Team to assist in the incident. Rescue personnel used specialized equipment and techniques to safely move the patient from the roof to the ground while “minimizing the risk of aggravating his injuries,” the EPFD spokesperson said.
At around 9:43 a.m., the man was transferred in an ambulance as a Level 3/Code 1 (life-threatening injuries).
