Check your pantry if you’re planning on having some rolls with dinner tonight, as frozen dough sold in Texas and several other states were recalled over the potential for glass contamination. Here’s what to know.
Two products sold in Texas and 18 other states — Pillsbury’s frozen Hard Roll Dough best by October 12 and October 13, and Kaiser Roll Dough best by October 13 — were voluntarily recalled by Pillsbury’s parent company, General Mills, last month. On July 13, the FDA officially classified the recall as a Class II, its terminology for a temporary or reversible medical risk or a product that presents a remote chance of serious health consequences. According to the FDA, the reason given was the “potential foreign material (glass)” in the rolls.
This dough isn’t the same as the one’s you’ll find on the shelves. According to food magazine Delish, the Hard Roll Dough and Kaiser Roll Dough aren’t customer-facing — instead, they’re sold exclusively to Walmart stores to be baked in-house. Since the recall was issued, the products have been pulled from stores, Delish reports.
The recall is ongoing and impacts more than 4,000 cases of the products totaling more than 700,000 rolls. Aside from Texas, the dough was also sold in Arkansas, California, Florida, Georgia, Indiana, Louisiana, Maine, Missouri, New Mexico, New York, Ohio, Oklahoma, Pennsylvania, South Carolina, Tennessee, Virginia, Washington and Wyoming.
