El Paso, TX (KFOX14) — Sorting through Medicare options can feel overwhelming for seniors and the family members helping them make health care decisions. Gateway Senior Solutions says its goal is to slow the process down, explain the choices and give clients room to decide what works for them.
Brian Weeden of Gateway Senior Solutions said the agency’s mission grew from a conversation with a client in her mid-80s. At the end of their call, the woman told him, “Nobody’s ever explained Medicare to me like you did.”
The comment stayed with him.
“We, as an industry, have to do better,” Weeden said.
He said the experience inspired him to create an agency focused on education and guidance instead of simply taking an order. The company’s approach, he said, is to help clients understand what they have, review available choices and identify questions they may not have known to ask.
Those questions can come from television commercials, radio advertisements, conversations with neighbors or information shared by friends and relatives. Weeden said clients need a trusted place where they can bring those questions and receive a clear explanation.
“We just want to make it uncomplicated for them,” Weeden said.
Rather than make the decision for a client, Weeden said the agency explains the advantages, disadvantages and differences among the options it can offer.
During the segment, Weeden described older clients who came to him without fully understanding their existing coverage. After reviewing their situations, he said they moved to plans that better fit their needs and reduced certain out-of-pocket costs.
