Former Houston Life co-host Tessa Barrera has joined iHeartMedia’s Sunny 99.1 as an afternoon host.
The local news personality was previously at KPRC where she hosted a daily afternoon talk show for three years before departing in March. Barrera announced her new radio role in a YouTube video posted on Monday. The move reunites her with the company where she previously worked on The Rod Ryan Show before joining Houston television.
“Sunny is one of the biggest pop radio stations in the country,” Barrera said in the video. “And it was just kind of serendipitous, like right place, right time type of thing.”

Sunny 99.1’s website lists Barrera as an afternoon hosts, and she is scheduled to be on air from 3 p.m. to 7 p.m. daily.
The move marks Barrera’s return to Houston radio.
Before moving to Houston television, Barrera worked as a sports reporter at KRIS 6 and KZTV Action 10 News in Corpus Christi. She later moved to Los Angeles to work as a news anchor and executive producer at radio talk show KFI AM 640.
In 2019, Barrera joined iHeartMedia’s 94.5 The Buzz as a member of “The Rod Ryan Show.”
In her online video post, Barrera said she was offered the afternoon host position at Sunny 99.1 after the company laid off several employees, including midday host Amanda Flores.
“I just don’t want anyone to think like, I replaced (Flores),” Barrera said. “That’s the kind of nature of this business, and I wish I was that wasn’t the case.”
