LUBBOCK, Texas (KCBD) – Here’s a look at some fun events happening around town this weekend:

“Hamlet”

Maedgen Theater at Texas Tech Texas Tech University’s School of Theatre & Dance is presenting William Shakespeare’s “Hamlet.” This classic play, directed by Bill Gelber, will be staged for a 21st-century audience, exploring themes of ambition, grief, murder, betrayal, unrequited love, and the supernatural. Celebración at the Buddy Holly Center

6pm Friday

The Buddy Holly Center’s featured exhibition is Celebración. Celebración is an annual exhibition of artwork that explores the history and meaning behind the Mexican holiday, Día de los Muertos or Day of the Dead. This exhibit includes works from local and regional artists who were invited to create an expression of their interpretation of Día de los Muertos by honoring departed ancestors, friends and family members. Artists are not limited by choice of media or content, but are asked to focus on the unified theme of Mexico’s centuries-old ritual of commemorating the death of a loved one.

Friday at the International Culture Center 6pm-7:30pm This event is FREE and open to the public

International Affairs and TTU K12 Global Education Outreach will host a Día de los Muertos Celebration. Enjoy the cultural traditions of the Day of the Dead with family-friendly arts & crafts, music, food, Día de los Muertos themed art exhibit, and face painting.

John Denver Christmas

Saturday at the Buddy Holly Hall 2pm and 7:30pm

Celebrate the joy of the season with America’s Top John Denver Tribute starring Rick Schuler. On November 8, the Crickets Theater at Buddy Holly Hall will come alive with the timeless music of John Denver, including beloved hits like “Take Me Home, Country Roads,” “Annie’s Song,” and, of course, “Rocky Mountain High.” Schuler’s authentic vocals and heartfelt performance capture the spirit of Denver’s music and his holiday classics, creating a nostalgic and uplifting Christmas experience for all ages.
