SAN ANTONIO (KTSA News) — Just when you thought it was safe to pull up to the gas pump, a huge change in gas prices in San Antonio.
A week ago, the average price for a gallon of regular unleaded was $2.52 in the Alamo City.
As of Thursday morning, that average price had ballooned to $2.80, tying San Antonio and El Paso for the most expensive fuel in the Lone Star State.
Nonetheless, drivers in Texas are seeing relatively stable gas prices as we move closer to Thanksgiving. Even with some regional fluctuations, fuel prices remain lower than a year ago and Texas has the fifth lowest price average of any state in the country.
The statewide gas price average in Texas is $2.64 per gallon for regular unleaded fuel, according to the AAA Texas Weekend Gas Watch. That price is five cents more when compared to this day last week and is four cents less per gallon compared to this day last year.
Of the major metropolitan areas surveyed in Texas, drivers in Lubbock are paying the least at $2.45 per gallon.
The national average price for a gallon of regular unleaded is $3.08, which is four cents more when compared to this day last week and three cents less per gallon when compared to this day last year.
