We are just a couple of days away from kickoff between #9 Texas Tech and #8 BYU. Texas Tech and BYU fans are excited about watching their teams play and while fans who have a ticket to the game get to witness the game live, the rest of us will be watching on TV. Which leads us to a potential problem. What happens if you are a YouTube TV subscriber in Lubbock or elsewhere?
ABC/ESPN/Disney No Longer on YouTube TV
If you haven’t been paying attention, last week Disney/ESPN had their content removed from YouTube TV. The two companies are in a fight over fees. Disney/ESPN wants Google, or YouTube TV to pay more for their content. YouTube TV says Disney/ESPN wants too much money and they would have to raise subscription fees.
This led to ESPN not airing any college football games or NFL’s Monday Night Football on YouTube TV. It also sent millions, including myself, searching for alternatives and hoping that this would be a one week issues. But the standoff continues.
Texas Tech and BYU Play Saturday on ABC, Alternatives To YouTube TV
If the standoff between ESPN/Disney and YouTube TV continues into the weekend, Texas Tech fans who subscribe to YouTube TV will have to find an alternative way to watch the game.
According to CNET, these are 5 options for YouTube TV Subscribers
Sling Orange Day/Weekend Pass: $5, $10; carries ESPNESPN Unlimited: $30; carries ESPN networksFubo Sports: $46 for first month after free trial; carries ABC and ESPN networksDirecTV MySports: $70 after free trial; access to ESPN networks and, in some regions, ABCHulu Plus Live TV: $65 promo offer after free trial; carries ABC and ESPN channels
The Sling Weekend pass is probably the cheapest option, but not a great long-term option. Last weekend I signed up for a free trial of Fubo. The service was fine, but I did miss the multiview option you get with YouTube TV.

I haven’t decided what I will do for this weekend. It seems like I’m a point of going to Hulu Plus Live TV and possibly ditching YouTube TV. But then that is just rewarding ESPN and Disney for starting all of this since Disney owns Hulu.
Remember the good old days when cord cutting was supposed to make things easier? And cheaper?
Of course all of this could be resolved by Saturday morning if the two sides come to an agreement.
