CORPUS CHRISTI, Texas — The Corpus Christi City Council spent a second day hearing testimony as it considers whether to remove Mayor Paulette Guajardo from office.
The hearing stems from a petition tied to the city’s investment in the downtown Homewood Suites project. Petitioners allege Guajardo violated the City Charter during the approval process.

Guajardo spent more than four hours on the witness stand answering questions from the attorney representing the petitioners.
Petitioners also argue that key documents were altered before they reached the City Council. Guajardo continues to deny any wrongdoing.
Before testimony resumed, members of the public were given an opportunity to address the council.
“This is not being handled properly in my opinion, and I would please request that y’all, you know, this isn’t, this is bad for Corpus Christi. It’s been bad for Corpus Christi,” Port Aransas resident Cathy Fulton said.
The hearing is scheduled to resume Aug. 6.
