FORT SMITH, Ark. (KNWA/KFTA) — Reports from both Fort Smith Police and U.S. Marshals Service on Sunday said Jasmine Ashanti Johnston, 20, was located in Houston, Texas, and taken into custody after running from a murder charge for nearly three weeks.
According to police, Johnston was located by the U. S. Marshals (Gulf Coast Task Force) in Houston, Texas, on Sunday at Huckberry Park, where she was taken into custody.
“This is what happens when federal, state and local agencies work together to keep our communities safe,” Chief Deputy U. S. Marshal Cory Thomas said.

Johnston was the remaining at-large suspect in connection with the fatal shooting of a 16-year-old boy on July 7 in the 5300 block of Elm Street in Fort Smith.
Fort Smith police obtained an arrest warrant July 8 through the Sebastian County Prosecuting Attorney’s Office, formally charging Johnston with first-degree murder and aggravated robbery.
On Friday, the U.S. Marshals Service for the Western District of Arkansas announced it was offering up to a $5,000 reward for information leading to the arrest of Johnston.

There was no indication as to whether or not that money was rewarded in the statement from police.
A second suspect was previously arrested and charged in connection with the shooting on July 10.
Donny Warner, 18, was arrested in LeFlore County, Oklahoma, and taken into custody. Fort Smith police said during its investigation that Warner was developed as a suspect, and warrants for his arrest list first-degree murder and aggravated robbery charges.
