LUBBOCK, Texas (KCBD) – Support continues to grow for the Texas Tech Football team’s barber who’s asking for prayers after his wife was critically injured by a drunk driver in October.
Ivan Ortiz is currently managing his family while supporting his wife, Maddie, who remains in the ICU.
Ivan started his GoFundMe campaign following his interview with KCBD’s Imani Jackson. Red Raiders have shown up for him and his family as his wife continues her fight to recover.
ESPN’s Kirk Herbstreit and BYU fans joined in on helping Ivan Ortiz by donating thousands of dollars. The GoFundMe has now raised more than $150,000. While Jason McGowan, co-founder and CEO of Crumbl, made a $25,000 donation, more keep pouring in.
“I couldn’t be more thankful for that. Joey McGuire and Kirby Hocutt reached out to me and like I said, I couldn’t be more thankful. That they’re walking with us,” Ivan told KCBD in a follow-up interview.
