A Texas-made film that won a Lone Star Film Festival prize releases next week.
“Due West” follows a small-town woman who is forced to break the law when she’s in need of medical care in West Texas. The film will be available to rent or buy on video-on-demand services like Apple TV and Prime Video on Tuesday, July 28.
The film stars Adrianne Palicki, who was just in North Texas celebrating the 20th anniversary of the “Friday Night Lights” television series. “E.T.” star Henry Thomas also appears in “Due West.”
‘Due West’ sets summer release date
“Due West” premiered at the Lone Star Film Festival in November 2025, and won the “Best Texas Film” prize.
The Star-Telegram attended a screening of the film and heard insights from writer-director Evan Miller, who is from Pampa, Texas. Miller wanted to make the movie in the actual locations of where the story is set, thus the production filmed scenes in the small Texas towns of Marfa, Alpine and Marathon.
“We were welcomed by that community to shoot there, as small town folks usually are welcoming,” Miller said. “Couldn’t have asked for a better place to go shoot the movie.”
