The U.S. Department of War has awarded Lockheed Martin a $1.6 billion spare parts contract, the largest such contract in the program’s history.
The contract will procure spares for F-35 fighter jets and will deploy spare packages to the Air Force, Marine Corps, Navy, F-35 program partners and foreign military customers.
A report released in June from the Government Accountability Office found that only 25% of F-35 jets were considered fully mission capable, down from 38% in 2021.
A spokesperson for Lockheed Martin said the company continues to partner with the Joint Program Office to ensure efficient and effective sustainment for F-35s.
Previous F-35 spare parts agreements between Lockheed Martin and the Pentagon include contracts for $578 million in July 2025, $348 million in September 2022, and $382 million December 2022.
“These investments support our efforts to improve mission capable rates and will help drive consistent demand for the global network of suppliers to better support the global F-35 fleet now and in the future,” a Lockheed Martin spokesperson said in a statement.
Work on the spare parts will be performed in Fort Worth, and is expected to be completed by September 2033.
