Coming on the heels of America’s pretty large nationwide birthday celebration, a Texas original is having its own party to close the summer. Whataburger is marking 76 years starting Aug. 1, and it’s rolling out a bunch of specials over the month to get folks to join in on the fun.
The first special comes Aug. 5, when Whataburger will sell $0.76 taquitos with cheese between 6 a.m. and 11 a.m.
Then, on Aug. 8, the business will mark National Whataburger Day, symbolizing the day the fast-food chain came to life in Corpus Christi in 1950. On that day, folks can get a second Whataburger free with the purchase of one between 11 a.m. and 8 p.m.
The other specials are:
Aug. 12 – $0.76 16-ounce Whatafresher (11 a.m.-8 p.m.)
Aug. 19 – $0.76 Big Ranch Wrap (11 a.m.-4 p.m.)
Aug. 26 – $0.76 Signature Chicken Sandwich (5 p.m.-10 p.m.)
Here’s the catch: the deals can only be found in the Whataburger app and be used by Whataburger Rewards members. Also, one redemption per account, per offer.

“Birthdays are meant to be shared, and that’s exactly what we’re doing all month long,” said Whataburger President and CEO Debbie Stroud in a statement. “Whether you’ve been ordering the same Whataburger for years or you’ve been waiting for the perfect excuse to try something new, we’re celebrating the guests who’ve made the last 76 years so special.”
Whataburger started as a burger stand on Ayers Street in Corpus Christi. Franchise locations started popping up a few years later, and the first storefront outside Texas came when a Whataburger opened in Pensacola, Fla., in 1959. The iconic A-frame restaurant space came in 1961, while the well-known “Flying W” logo arrived in 1973.
Today, Whataburger is based in San Antonio and has more than 1,000 locations in 17 states.
