Houston will get its first look at Thursday Boot Co. this October.

The leather footwear and apparel store is opening its first Houston location – and first Texas store –

in Rice Village, co-founder Connor Wilson confirmed to the Houston Chronicle.

The Houston store opens as the online-first retailer continues expanding its brick-and-mortar footprint. The company, which built its reputation through e-commerce, is betting that Houston’s established customer base and Rice Village’s retail traffic make it the right place to introduce the brand to Texas shoppers.

Thursday Boots Co. specializes in men’s and women’s footwear – from western-style, dress and rugged boots, to loafers, dress shoes and sneakers – as well as jackets and handbags.

A filing on the Texas Department of Licensing and Regulation website notes that construction on a 2,625-square-foot renovated retail space is scheduled to start in early August.

The company is known for producing artisan-crafted leather goods made from leather ethically sourced from North America and Europe that wear well over time.

“Leather is special because it evolves with wear to tell its own story,” Wilson said in a statement to the Chronicle via email. “We love working with natural leathers that get better over time to become heirlooms in their own right.”

The company started as a digital-first business and was the brainchild of Wilson and co-founder Nolan Walsh while they were attending Columbia Business School, according to the Thursday Boot Co. website.

The brand’s first physical footprint was established in 2019 with a store in New York City’s SoHo neighborhood.

Wilson and Walsh said their vision was to offer

quality footwear made from natural leathers.

“That remains our north star,” Wilson said.

The name comes from the founders’ concept of people preparing for the weekend early, with a design focused on footwear that is comfortable, versatile and durable, Wilson said.

“Thursday is the unofficial start of the weekend when you need to be ready for anything,” he said.

The Houston location will serve an established customer base, said Wilson.

“We have many happy customers already in Houston,” he said. “Part of this is about servicing them better to double down on their loyalty and enthusiasm, and part of it is making it easier to reach their friends and neighbors in person.”

The Houston store will be located at 5407 Kelvin Drive.
