The tallest building in Texas, and one of the tallest in America, is now nestled in the Capital City following the completion of the Waterline Tower with a top-out ceremony last August. Located at 98 Red River St. and featuring a maximum height of 1,025 feet and comprising 74 stories, the Waterline encompasses 703,000 square feet of rental office and retail space, hundreds of luxury apartments as well as a five-store hotel featuring 252 rooms.
Its top-out ceremony officially passed the torch from Houston to Austin for the tallest tower in Texas. It was a title H-Town held for more than 40 years courtesy the JPMorgan Chase Tower, formerly known as the Texas Commerce Center. That skyscraper, located at 600 Travis St. in downtown Houston, is 75 stories and 1,002 feet tall.
In April, project officials confirmed Michelin-recognized Alteño is expanding from Denver and is poised to serve as the tower’s anchored restaurant within 1 Hotel Austin. The restaurant is expected to make its grand debut this summer, with 1 Hotel anticipated to open in August.
