CANUTILLO, Texas (KFOX14/CBS4) — As Canutillo ISD heads into a new school year, district leaders are preparing for familiar pressures facing schools across the region, including shifting enrollment, campus safety concerns and ongoing changes aimed at supporting students.
Canutillo ISD Superintendent Dr. Josue Borrego joined the KFOX14 Community Conversations segment to discuss what the district is seeing as the year begins. Topics included enrollment trends affecting districts across El Paso and Texas, as well as what enrollment is expected to look like in Canutillo ISD this school year.
Safety was also a focus, including questions about what measures are in place this year following an incident last year involving three employees and a special education student, and what message the district has for parents who may have concerns.
Borrego was also asked to explain recent restructuring within the district that added and changed positions, including why the changes were made and how they are expected to benefit students and classrooms.
The discussion also included updates on construction and improvement projects across Canutillo ISD campuses, along with the district’s view of the biggest challenges expected this year and how it is preparing to address them.
The segment also highlighted that this will be Borrego’s first time starting a school year as superintendent of Canutillo ISD, and included questions about what he is most looking forward to, what goals he has set for the district, and what message he wants to share with students, parents, staff and the community as the new school year begins.
