A busy highway that leads into San Antonio is partially shut down after a major 18-wheeler incident happened around noon on Tuesday, July 28. Authorities are at the scene on U.S. Highway 90 near Castroville.
The Bexar County Sheriff’s Office (BCSO) shared in a social media post at 11:59 a.m. that only one lane remains open to those traveling eastbound on the highway. The agency says the 18-wheeler spilled materials onto the lanes near the Pioneer Estates subdivision. The traffic monitoring site Sig Alert shows that several vehicles are at a nearly complete stop in the area.
“Please avoid the area, use an alternate route if possible, and expect significant delays,” the BCSO wrote in a statement. “There are no reported injuries at this time.”
Drivers are backed up to Montgomery Road, according to the Texas Department of Transportation’s Tranguide cameras. Folks are traveling between approximately 12 and 24 mph as of 12:38 p.m.
Authorities did not specify whether the spill was caused by a crash. There is no word on when the lanes will reopen. MySA reached out to the BCSO for more information.
