Snapology brought engineering and robotics lessons to Mary McLeod Bethune Early Child Development Nursery, as students learn coding, teamwork and problem-solving.
CORPUS CHRISTI, Texas — Students at Mary McLeod Bethune Early Child Development Nursery are spending part of their summer building robots, learning to code and solving engineering challenges through hands-on STEAM activities.
Snapology of Corpus Christi recently brought its STEAM summer camp to the school, giving children the opportunity to build and program robots while learning science, technology, engineering and math concepts through interactive projects.

Owner Viviana “Viv” Pelton said the goal is to make learning fun while helping students develop skills they can use long after summer ends.
“With robotics they’re learning coding and programming,” Pelton said. “They build something, then they program it and watch it move. After that, they can make adjustments and see how those changes affect the project.”

According to Snapology, the program is designed to strengthen more than STEAM skills. Lessons also focus on communication, teamwork, creativity, critical thinking and problem-solving while encouraging children to learn through trial and error.
Pelton said hands-on activities help students better understand concepts they may encounter later in school.
“They’ll remember building a roller coaster and understand things like gravity and G-force because they experienced it themselves,” she said.
She believes those experiences also prepare children for a future where technology plays an even bigger role.
“The LEGO bricks are just the tool,” Pelton said. “The real lesson is learning how to solve problems, think outside the box and be creative.”
Beyond robotics, students practice working together, communicating with classmates and building confidence by trying new ideas without being afraid to make mistakes.
“Potential is a gift. Growth is a choice,” Pelton said. “We inspire kids to make that choice with every build.”
One student said the best part of the camp is getting to create something from scratch.
“It’s fun,” the student said. “You can program it, you can play with it and you can build the next thing.”
