Coronado’s Roy, Lubbock High’s Rodriguez preview Friday night’s showdown

  • November 7, 2025

LUBBOCK, Texas (KCBD) – The Coronado Mustangs and Lubbock High Westerners will come into Lowrey Field anxious to close out their season with a long-awaited victory. After coming off an open date last week, Coronado head coach Andrew Roy believes it possible to end the season Friday night with a hard-earned win.

“We think we match up pretty good, and we’re just excited for another opportunity to get out and, try to go out on top,” he said. “Not necessarily on top as winning a title or going to the playoffs, just going out with a win and we feel confident.”

In week three, the Westerners topped the Snyder Tigers 48-21 on KCBD’s “Thursday Night Throwdown”. Lubbock High head coach Juan Rodriguez hopes to experience the same level of victory Friday night.

“(I’m) just really excited for our kids, for the opportunity to play one more night and try to put a, a win in our winning column and then try to get us a district win as well,” he said. “So, looking forward to that, I think it’s going to be a great game for us.”

In spite of the win-loss record that two programs bring into the game, they also present strong offensive players that has the opposite team on high alert- running back Bo Davis from Lubbock High, and wide receiver Campbell Stanek from Coronado.

“Anytime you have a receiver like they do, you want to make sure that you do everything you can to find ways to contain him really, because it’s going to be hard to stop him,” said Coach Rodriguez. “The best thing you can do is to try to put enough pressure on their quarterback where he makes some mistakes and run the ball and try to keep their offense off the field.”

On the other side, Coronado is planning to stop Lubbock High running back Bo Davis, who has rushed for nearly 121 yards per game.

“They’re not going to take us lightly. They’re going to come out and they’re going to play with confidence as well. Bo Davis is an excellent running back, and so we’re trying to stop him,” said Coach Roy. “So, we’ve game planned around stopping him, and we put some stuff together offensively where we want to attack them on offense and try to put some points on the board.”

The game will stream live on KCBD.com and the Connected TV app. Kickoff set for 7 p.m.
