STRATMOOR, Colo. (KKTV) – El Paso County deputies arrested a wanted suspect Friday morning with assistance from a drone on charges related to failure of registering as a sex offender.
El Paso County deputies said at about 7:30 a.m., deputies, with assistance from a drone were called to a residence at the 1200 block of Maxwell Street in the Stratmoor Valley area.
Deputies said they were looking for a wanted fugitive believed to be at the residence.
Deputies located a vehicle associated with the fugitive, identified as 39-year-old Joseph Pietsch, who deputies said was wanted on multiple warrants, including felony charge for failure to register as a sex offender and several misdemeanor failure to appear warrants.
Deputies determined Pietsch was likely in the residence.
With the drone deployed, deputies said they were able to keep surveillance of the residence, as well as enhancing the safety of the public, responding deputies and the suspect.
At about 8 a.m., deputies said Pietsch left the residence and was seen pacing in the driveway while looking in both directions along the street. After several minutes, Pietsch and an unidentified man entered the vehicle associated with the suspect and drove away.
With the drone assisting deputies, they said they were able to locate Pietsch’s vehicle, stop the vehicle and take him into custody.
Pietsch was booked into the El Paso County Jail on his outstanding warrants as well as an additional charge of possession of a controlled substance, deputies said. As of Tuesday, he is being held on a $2,003 bond.
