An anticipated Trader Joe’s in Frisco just got a step closer to reality.
The city’s Planning and Zoning Commission on Tuesday unanimously approved a request for a rezoning proposal for the project. The overall development also includes a senior living facility.
The Trader Joe’s will be on the west side of the city of Frisco near the corner of Main Street and Majestic Gardens Drive.
During the meeting, Commissioner Sean Merrell said local demand for a Trader Joe’s in Frisco dates back many years, while noting strong support for the project in comments from neighbors and citizens.
“I’m glad it’s coming,” Merrell said.
Trader Joe’s has built up an active fan base across the country and in North Texas with its smaller-format shops that include meat, dairy and produce along with a lot of snacks, desserts and wines that customers love. Today, Frisco residents today need to drive to other cities such as Plano or McKinney to shop at the grocer, which also has sites in Dallas and other spots in the region.
The project will head next to the City Council for approval there.
