OXNARD, California (KLTV) – The Dallas Cowboys officially opened 2026 training camp Tuesday as owner and general manager Jerry Jones delivered his annual state of the team address.
Jones said he is encouraged by the volume of changes made during the offseason — both on the roster and within the coaching staff. The Cowboys are entering the season with a revamped defensive unit led by first-year defensive coordinator Christian Parker.
Jones on the offseason overhaul
“What I am excited about is I believe we can do something,” Jones said. “The last time there were this many changes of any team I have been involved in was the first year with Jimmy Johnson — we won one football game.”
Jones also addressed quarterback Dak Prescott, who arrived at camp wearing a T-shirt referencing the last time Dallas appeared in the Super Bowl.
“I like the idea that thinking that positive about what we are going to work for — that’s good to me to be positive, especially coming from him,” Jones said.
Jones added that Prescott has the ability to make the players around him better.
Key additions
The Cowboys made several notable moves ahead of the 2026 season:
Linebacker Rashan Gary joined the Cowboys from the Green Bay Packers.
Safety Jalen Thompson was signed in the offseason.
Cornerback Caleb Downs was selected in the NFL draft out of Ohio State.
Wide receiver Malachi Lawrence was signed.
Wide receiver George Pickens will play the 2026 season on the franchise tag.
Key departures
Dallas also saw several players exit ahead of the new season:
Defensive tackle Osa Odighizuwa signed with the San Francisco 49ers.
Wide receiver Jalen Tolbert signed with the Miami Dolphins.
Safety C.J. Goodwin announced his retirement.
Running back Miles Sanders remains unsigned.
