The former Spur was a South Texas staple back in his San Antonio playing days and hopes to be again.

CORPUS CHRISTI, Texas — Fomer San Antonio Spur Danny Green brought his basketball camp tback to Corpus Christi for the first time in eight years Tuesday.

The three-time NBA champion held his camp for the South Texas kids over at the First Baptist Chuch on Ocean Drive. Green was traded away from San Antonio to Toronto back in the summer of 2018 before going on to win two more championships with the Raptors and Lakers. But he says San Antonio always felt like home to him during his playing career and so he felt it was time to start bringing his camp back to the Coastal Bend and other neighboring areas.

“My dad’s big on community, so any place that i’m able to call home, I try to do the same thing,” Green said. “So this is a home for me. So it means a lot for me to be a staple in this community, even though I haven’t been here in 8 years as a Spur.”

Green also talked about the Spurs’ run to the finals and falling to the Knicks in five games. The former Spur says it should be a good learning experience for the team and some key offseason acquisitions should help even more.

“I think they have a really good chance at doing some special things for years to come,” Green said of the Spurs. “Now they’ve been there. They’re experienced. I like the pickups. Bringing back Harrison Barnes and picking up Tobias Harris. Really good additions and keeping the same group together.”

Green is continuing his post-playing career on the broadcasting side as he’s done work for ESPN and continues to talk everything Lakers with Spectrum Sportsnet.
