Police say officers were searching for the man charged with sexual assault against a minor when he reportedly pulled out a handgun.
FORT WORTH, Texas — Fort Worth officers shot and killed a man Saturday night after officials say he reportedly pulled out a handgun.
According to Fort Worth Police Chief Eddie Garcia, Fort Worth Police Directed Response Unit (DRU) were searching for the man, who was charged with sexual assault against a minor, after he had reportedly cut his ankle bracelet off.

When officers found the man shortly after 8 p.m. driving near Interstate 35 and Risinger Road, police say he led them on a short chase to a motel, M&M Inn and Suites,101 Palette Drive.
As police approached the man giving verbal commands, Garcia said the man reportedly pulled out a handgun and officers fired at him.
Officers rendered medical aid, police said, but the man died from his injuries.
Officers preformed a sweep of the vehicle and located a handgun inside, officials say. There were no other passengers inside the vehicle and no other injuries reported, police say.
Fort Worth Police Department’s Major Case Unit is investigating the scene and working to determine the circumstances leading up to the pursuit and officer-involved shooting.
Police have not identified the man who was killed. The Tarrant County Medical Examiner’s Office will identify the deceased and release the official cause of death.
Garcia said a press conference will be held later this week regarding the shooting.
