Goodwill Industries of Dallas will hold the grand opening of its new retail location at 3000 McDermott Road in Plano on Thursday, Aug. 13.
The location is the nonprofit’s first small-format store, featuring 10,000 square feet of retail space and stocking 5,000 fresh items daily. It is expected to serve approximately 300,000 customers annually.
Goodwill converted a shuttered Walgreens into the permanent neighborhood destination, serving as a blueprint for how Goodwill Dallas turns vacant spaces into neighborhood assets. The location brings 70 jobs, a variety of merchandise, and a donation center for neighbors to give gently used items a second home.
“This store is a blueprint for how Goodwill Dallas turns vacant spaces into neighborhood assets, creating jobs, funding workforce development, and keeping quality goods accessible to families who need them most,” said Tim Heis, President and CEO of Goodwill Industries of Dallas. “That is what our mission looks like in action.”
Store hours will be Monday through Saturday from 9 a.m. to 9 p.m., and Sundays from 10 a.m. to 7 p.m.
The store opens as children prepare to return to class, offering local families a timely option to stretch their back-to-school budgets.
The Plano launch follows another major expansion for the organization, which recently opened its biggest North Central Texas store in Mansfield.
Secondhand shopping continues to gain momentum nationwide, with Dallas emerging as a major hub for resale retail. According to the 2024 ThredUp Resale Report, the U.S. secondhand market grew by 11% in 2023 — seven times faster than the broader retail clothing sector — and is projected to reach $73 billion by 2028.
Goodwill Industries of Dallas is a nonprofit dedicated to changing lives through job training and employment services for individuals with disabilities and other barriers to employment across eight North Texas counties.
