The growing Grayson District is just a short stroll across Broadway from San Antonio’s Pearl, which boasts its own lineup of restaurants and bars, including Smash’d, a burger joint that doubles as a beer bar. A new construction filing suggests the smashburger hot spot is also expanding, with a massive expansion planned for the property.
On Wednesday, July 29, a new project details page appeared on the Texas Department of Licensing and Regulation website, listing several details about Smash’d’s proposed additions. With an estimated cost of $200,000, Smash’d will add 1,200 square feet to its already 1,000-square-foot restaurant, more than doubling the building’s size.

According to the project details page, the renovation will begin on August 1, 2026, and is expected to be completed by November 20, 2026, though those dates are subject to change. MySA reached out to Smash’d for more information about the expansion.
“The San Antonio community has shown their appreciation through continued growth in new and repeat customers and Smash’d is responding with an exciting expansion that will increase interior and exterior space as well as our ability to serve a larger audience with an expanded kitchen,” owners Rick Greenfield and Erin Tireman said in a statement.

Presently, Smash’d includes its brick-and-mortar restaurant, a large covered patio area, a performance stage and a wall of self-serve beer taps called The Pour Yard. There is also a small adjacent parking lot that extends to the corner of Grayson Street and Austin Street. In addition to burgers and beverages, Smash’d hosts weekly events like trivia and live music.
Regarding whether this remodeling might interrupt any happenings, Smash’d owners said that the construction may be challenging, but the business will come out the other side better able to serve its customers.
“We plan to be a part of the San Antonio restaurant and live music community for a very long time and we can’t wait to bring you an even better experience!” the restaurant said in its statement.
