CORPUS CHRISTI, Texas — Nueces County commissioners approved updates to the county’s voting precinct boundaries during Wednesday’s Commissioners Court meeting to comply with federal election law following congressional redistricting.
County officials said the changes were necessary after new congressional district boundaries left some voting precincts split between two congressional districts. Federal election law does not allow split precincts, requiring the county to adjust precinct lines to match the updated congressional maps.

Nueces County Tax Assessor-Collector Kevin Kieschnick said the changes are administrative and will not affect voters’ representation.
“What it doesn’t change, though, is who those people vote for,” Kieschnick said. “It doesn’t change their representation. It doesn’t change who they’re represented by at any level. It’s really just a technicality to make sure there are no split precincts and we’re in line with the federal election code.”
According to Kieschnick, the boundary adjustments affect about 30 voters.
County officials said the changes are necessary to keep Nueces County’s election system in compliance with federal law ahead of future elections.
