Walmart has officially filed plans for a $1.8 million renovation at its Far Westside location at 11210 Potranco Road, San Antonio, TX 78253, according to a new filing with the Texas Department of Licensing and Regulation (TDLR).
The project plans call for an interior and exterior remodel of 9,650 square feet of the existing location, with work set aside for an additional 9,215 square feet. Specific details on which upgrades are coming to the popular location in one of the city’s fastest-growing corridors were not listed in the filing.
The remodel comes as Walmart is in the midst of a massive national effort to modernize its stores. The company has invested $2.5 billion into its growing store footprint over the past five years, with upgrades planned for more than 650 stores nationwide, including 72 in the Lone Star State. Its latest push, announced in April 2026, will bring shoppers refreshed interiors and exteriors, wider aisles with updated layouts and “digital touchpoints” that integrate Walmart’s online product options into the in-store shopping experience.
A Walmart representative confirmed to MySA that the company’s Potranco location will undergo similar upgrades to the ones announced for other stores earlier this year. Though, a list of all the Texas stores set to receive the modern new touches did not appear to include the Far Westside location at the time.
Kim Cooper, director of communications for Walmart’s southwest division, said the store will not close once the work begins and that construction will happen after-hours. Each of the company’s upcoming remodels, part of their “Store of the Future” upgrades, could also include a renovated apparel section, expanded pickup and delivery services, more pharmacy delivery options, and upgraded areas for fulfilling online grocery orders.
Shoppers might also see a larger deli and hot bar selections at the retailer’s Neighborhood Markets.
Renovation work is set to begin on February 21, 2027, and is expected to wrap up on June 10, 2027, according to the filing, though construction timelines are subject to change at any time.
