A years-long back-and-forth between Paramour at the Phipps and building ownership has led to the end of the San Antonio bar as we know it. The business took to social media on Wednesday, July 29 to announce that it will exit its longtime rooftop space, leaving certain questions unanswered.
On Wednesday evening, Paramour posted a letter to its Instagram page to reveal that, after 11 years, the bar would be leaving its home at the building formerly known as the Phipps. The letter came months after the bar experienced its most recent lockout by management in March.
“We may be forced to move and it is disrupting Paramour’s ability to keep our word to always be there for our family. To live up to that commitment, we are considering pausing this version of Paramour while we plan the next evolution of this iconic San Antonio night spot,” the letter said. “The address may change. Paramour won’t.”
The statement went on to say that Paramour will continue to operate for a few more weeks, but it did not provide an exact final day. MySA visited the building on Thursday, July 30, and noted leasing signs posted along the property. One sign indicated that the Phipps building is now called The Paradigm, and under the management of Foresite Commercial Real Estate, it is seeking new tenants to fill its suites.
MySA made attempts to contact Paramour founder Martin J. Phipps, and we received a response from his wife, Julisa Medrano-Guerra-Phipps, about the future of the business.
“At this time we don’t have a definitive date. We are actively working out details and kinks that come with moving. For now, we are continuing to welcome guests and host events as usual,” Medrano-Guerra-Phipps said in a direct message from Paramour’s Instagram account.
Similarly, we reached out to Foresite Commercial Real Estate, which declined to comment on this matter. In reaching out, MySA sought to learn exactly when Paramour would be leaving the building, as Foresite currently lists the entire property for lease on its website.
