Counter Service, the sandwich shop in New York created by Chipotle founder Steve Ells, may be headed for Dallas.
For now, Counter Service sandwiches are available at five locations in NYC, including one in Times Square. But it shouldn’t come as a surprise that the entrepreneur who created a burrito chain with over 4,000 locations might be expanding his next food company.
Counter Service reps didn’t return an immediate request for comment about where the company would open in Dallas, or how our Texas city landed on its map.
In the Wall Street Journal article, Ells notes Counter Service chefs make bread in-house. And “the pieces of meat are not perfectly shaped like the things you see in these chain sandwich places,” he said in the story. Chefs make all sauces and garnishes.
Parallel with these hands-on techniques are intense tech systems, like one designed to detect friction points in high-volume restaurants, as Ells explained in The Journal.
Counter Service is likely to compete with Jimmy John’s, Jersey Mike’s, Subway and new-to-Dallas restaurant Snarf’s Sandwiches. But there’s room in the market for more sandwiches in Dallas. Longtimers like Jimmy’s Food Store, Cindi’s New York Deli and New York Sub coexist nicely with newer companies Seegars, Walkers’ and Cenzo’s.
Despite the “lack of atmosphere,” The Infatuation said the restaurant served “some of the best sandwiches you’ll find in this part of Manhattan.”
