Four North Texas teachers are being tapped to serve on a panel convened by Gov. Greg Abbott to help state leaders strengthen the state’s public schools.
Abbott announced the 21 members of his Texas Classroom Commission on Wednesday morning. The panel is tasked with making recommendations to lawmakers on issues such as bolstering classroom instruction, supporting teachers and improving the learning environment.
Among the educators serving on the panel are Bobbie Lynn Weir, a career and technical education teacher in Richardson ISD; Eric Hale, an elementary school teacher in Dallas ISD; Jean Streepey, a curriculum specialist in Highland Park ISD; and Tiffany Kilcoyne, an English teacher in Hurst-Euless-Bedford ISD.
In a statement, Abbott said teachers have “the talent, understanding, and expertise to ensure that every Texas student succeeds.
“That’s why educators must be at the center of the conversation,” he said. “The Texas Classroom Commission will help build on our historic investments in public education and deliver recommendations that strengthen classroom instruction, support teachers, and prepare the next generation of Texans.”
